Install and operateAvailable in v0.3.0

Install and oah doctor

One command per OS installs oah on macOS 13+ or native Windows 11; Linux is not yet supported. The installer finds Python 3.11+, asks before installing each missing tool with its official command, installs oah with uv (or pipx, or pip), checks that a new terminal finds oah, and runs oah doctor. --dry-run shows every step first.

When you need it

A tool that installs other tools can change your machine in ways you did not expect, and a missing prerequisite usually shows up only at the worst moment.

How it works

  1. macOS: get git with xcode-select --install, clone, then run bash install/install.sh. Windows: get Git with winget install --id Git.Git -e, clone, then run powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\install\install.ps1.
  2. Or download the v0.3.0 tag's source archive and SHA256SUMS from the release page, and refuse to unpack it unless its SHA-256 (shasum -a 256 on macOS, Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 on Windows) matches its entry.
  3. --dry-run (-DryRun) prints the ordered plan and changes nothing; --yes installs missing tools without asking about each; --skip-tools only installs oah.
  4. Five steps: find Python 3.11+ (offering uv), check the tools and ask Install now? [y/N] for each missing one, install oah, check that a new terminal finds oah, run oah doctor.
  5. The last line is OAH_INSTALL_OK, or OAH_INSTALL_INCOMPLETE with what still needs attention. In a new terminal, oah --version prints oah 0.3.0.

Example

Install from a clone on macOS (from the README).

git clone --branch v0.3.0 --depth 1 https://github.com/KenSuh/open-agent-harness.git
cd open-agent-harness
bash install/install.sh

Requirements

  • macOS 13+ or Windows 11, natively, without WSL; Windows 10 22H2 is best effort.
  • Python 3.11+ (no third-party runtime packages), git and a remote such as a GitHub repository.
  • Claude Code (a Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account) and Codex CLI (a ChatGPT plan or an API key), installed and signed in by you.
  • Recommended: uv, Node.js (required once a project uses gates), unlazy, graphify, gh, gitleaks, jq and ripgrep.

Limits and recovery

  • Linux is not yet supported.
  • Installers that need your password ask for it themselves; oah never sees it.
  • A dry run does not verify a manually downloaded archive; complete the checksum step first.
  • oah: command not found after installing: open a new terminal, then try uv tool update-shell.
  • pip's “externally managed environment” error: install uv and run the installer again. On Windows, an unrecognised winget means installing App Installer from the Microsoft Store.
